Emergency service for backed-up or overflowing grease traps
Water coming up through floor drains, a trap overflowing, or a strong grease smell in the dining room? Here is what to do right away, and how to flag your request as urgent.
Stop sending water to the affected drains. Pause the dish machine, sinks, and mop sinks that drain to that trap until it has been serviced.
Don't pour in chemicals or hot water. Degreasers, enzymes, and boiling water may move grease out of the trap and into the sewer line, where the clog becomes harder and more expensive to clear. Hancock County's FOG ordinance prohibits surfactants, solvents, and emulsifiers in grease interceptors.
Keep spills out of storm drains. Contain grease and wastewater with absorbents. In Pascagoula, for example, the storm water ordinance lists cooking grease as a pollutant that must not enter the city drainage system.
Request service and mark it urgent. Choose "Emergency (backup, overflow, odor)" and "Today (emergency)" on the form below.
If sewage is overflowing from a manhole or the public line, notify your city or sewer utility.
The trap is past due and grease and solids have reached the outlet
Grease has hardened in the line between the kitchen and the trap (often fixed with hydro-jetting)
A broken or missing baffle or outlet tee
Food solids from a garbage disposal building up in the trap
What to put in your request
What you're seeing: slow drains, standing water, overflow at the trap, or odor
Trap type and location (indoor, under-sink, or outdoor interceptor) and when it was last pumped, if you know
When the kitchen can be shut down for service, and how the truck can reach the trap
What to expect
Emergency requests are flagged as urgent when we share them with providers serving your area. Response times depend on provider availability, and because we are a referral service, we cannot guarantee a specific arrival time. Once you're back up and running, put the trap on a recurring pumping schedule so it doesn't happen again.
Disclosure: Biloxi Grease Trap is a referral service, not a pumping company. Independent providers quote and perform all work and may compensate us for referrals.
